Timeline of True Gospel
Questions: if the disciples had no knowledge of Jesus death, burial and resurrection until right before Jesus dies, then how did they go out and preach the gospel?
What Gospel did they preach? What Gospel did Jesus Preach?
Mark 1:14-15- “Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdomfn of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”
Jesus preached the gospel of the kingdom of God
- the time is fulfilled
- The kingdom of God is now/ here
- Repent and believe in (this) gospel
Yes the death, burial and resurrection is part of the gospel, but there’s more to the gospel.
Gospel was preached to Abraham
Gal 3:8–And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying, “In you all the nations shall be blessed.”fn
Genesis 12:3
3 I will bless those who bless you,
And I will curse him who curses you;
And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
Gospel was preached to Israelites
Hebrews 4:2–”For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them,fn not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.”
Them who?……..The Israelites
Hebrews 3:16-19– “For who, having heard, rebelled? Indeed, was it not all who came out of Egypt, led by Moses? Now with whom was He angry forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose corpses fell in the wilderness?
And to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest, but to those who did not obey? So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.
Hebrews 3:14-” For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end,”
