CLAIM:

“Observance of the Sabbath is Not required in New Covenant Christianity”

Point 1: Christianity is not the abolition of God’s Law — it is its fulfillment in the Messiah

  • Matthew 5:17–19 — “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets… whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments… shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven.”

The Messiah upholds the Torah (including the Sabbath), not discards it. Any definition of Christianity that opposes Jesus’ own words is legally invalid.

1 John 2:6 — “He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.”

Conclusion: Jesus kept the Sabbath, and Christians are to follow His steps.

Point 2: The New Covenant writes the same law (including the Sabbath) on the heart

  • Hebrews 8:10 — “I will write My laws in their minds and hearts.”

The same Ten Commandments that were external are now internal under the New Covenant.

  • Romans 3:31 — “Do we then make void the law through faith? Certainly not! On the contrary, we establish the law.”

Paul defends the ongoing authority of the Law, which includes the Sabbath commandment.
